Sunnyside rushed for 310 yards, and host Casa Grande managed
just 39 yards from scrimmage in the second half in a
nonregion game Friday night.
The Cougars (1-6) made the first half interesting after
wideout Mike Subia caught a 65-yard pass from quarterback
Ben Rodriguez to cut Sunnyside's lead to 14-6 with 7:25 left
in the second quarter.
But the Blue Devils (7-0) responded with a 97-yard drive,
capped by a 2-yard run by QB Jaime Valdez with 26 seconds
left before halftime to give the Blue Devils a 21-6 lead.
On the first play of the second half, Sunnyside running back
Jovan Stevenson ran for a 68-yard score to put the game out
of reach. Stevenson carried 11 times for 166 yards and two
TDs, and added a 20-yard interception return for a score in
the third quarter for Sunnyside.
