Smith is a sprinter on the track team, but he is best known
for his exploits on the football field. Smith, a member of
the Star's first-team All-Southern Arizona squad, rushed for
1,871 yards and 23 touchdowns as he led the Blue Devils to
the 4A state title.
° Favorite
athletes: Baltimore Ravens running back Jamal Lewis
for active player, and all-time is Chicago Bears legendary
running back Walter Payton - "He was great at what he
did and he worked the hardest at his position."

site: rivals.com - "It's a Web site that ranks
high school players. I'm not up there yet because I'm a
junior."
° Favorite
music: "Everything. It don't matter, even
country. I listen to Tupac before an event because he gives
you words and makes you feel what he is feeling."
° Favorite TV
shows: "Smallville" or "106th &
Park." - "I like them because I like Superman and
I like to listen to music. And "Dave Chappelle's
Show." I think that's the funniest show ever."
° Favorite place
to eat: El Guero Canelo - "I like to eat the
carne asada burrito. It's good."
° Weekend
activities: Hanging out with friends and going
paintballing - "There's this desert we all go to and we
all have our own paintball guns. I watch a lot of movies,
too. I go to the movies a lot."
° Favorite
subject: Math - "It's easy. I've always been
pretty good at math."
° My NCAA
bracket looked: "Pretty good. Duke and the U
of A kind of threw me off."
° Best sports
moment he has seen: "When Dominique Wilkins
dunked on 7-foot-7-inch Manute Bol. How's a big guy like
that going to get dunked on? Get him out of the game!"
° Best thing
about being a high school athlete: "Being a
star and everybody knows you, and people talking highly of
you. My coaches say don't get big-headed though."
° My parents
don't know that I: "My dad knows everything.
He calls me all the time, and I have to tell him
everything."
° Most
embarrassing moment: "At practice, this guy
barely tackled me and everybody made fun of me because he's
like a 'Rudy' kind of guy."
° In 10 years: "I'll
probably have a job, house, car and money to spend and do
whatever."
° Perfect job: "To
play a sport that you love so you never get bored or
tired."
° Aspirations
after high school: "I'll go to college and
probably major in computers because they interest me. My
ambition is to play in the NFL and be a star."
° Coach-speak:
"He's making up a lot of ground and doing it quickly
since an injury last season. He's lacking in technique and
at the starting blocks, and that needs to be improved.
Xavier has got the strength to be the best. He's a key
member in our relay team, very well liked by the team and
