The
Sunnyside High School football team is getting its engine
revved up.
The Blue Devils (3-2,
2-0) overpowered visiting Cholla 51-0 in a Class 4A Sonoran
contest last night to post their third straight win.
"We feel good about
the progress that we are making each week," said
Sunnyside coach Richard Sanchez. "The first three teams
that we played did a really good job of pointing out our
weaknesses."
The Blue Devils running
game has found itself. Led by backs Xavier
Smith, David
Morales and quarterback Jaime
Cota, Sunnyside sliced through
the Chargers for 334 yards on the ground. Smith scored on runs
of 65 and 55 yards. He finished the night with a game-high 145
yards on seven carries.
"Our running game
is coming on strong," Smith said.
Cholla (1-4, 0-2)
remains positive despite managing only 26 yards rushing and 19
yards passing.
