Sunnyside (4-2, 3-0) continued to dominate in Class 4A Sonoran play
with a shutout of the host Trojans (2-4, 2-1).
The Blue Devils held Catalina without a first down for the entire
game. The Trojans finished with -69 rushing yards and -2 passing
yards. Sunnyside rolled up 333 total yards of offense.
Turning point: The Blue Devils took command early, scoring
with 9:36 left in the first quarter on Jaime Cota's 1-run run.
Key stats: Sunnyside's Xavier Smith ran for 158 yards on 11
carries. His 68-yard touchdown run in the third quarter put the Blue
Devils up 42-0.
Notable: The Blue Devils have outscored their foes 166-6 in
their past three games.
Quotable: "Our offense did a good job, and our defense
stepped it up again," said Sunnyside coach Richard Sanchez.
"Our special teams also did a great job. We blocked a punt, and
we had some good returns. I think it's finally coming together."
