Defense drives Sunnyside to win
Sunnyside High School's defense was in control from the start.
Visiting Phoenix Shadow Mountain had minus 45 yards by the end
of the first quarter, and the Blue Devils rolled to a 49-0 win
at home.
The Devils' defense also forced two interceptions, two sacks
and a safety. Junior running back Jovan Stevenson helped
provide some offense on the ground, finishing with 169 yards
and two touchdowns on 34 carries.
Notable: In the second half, Manny Aguilar added touchdowns on
runs of 40 and 51 yards.
Key stat: Sunnyside's seven rushing touchdowns came from five
different players.
Quotable: "We played pretty well," said coach Richard Sanchez,
"The defense did a good job, but we still need to improve."
