The Sunnyside offense couldn't be stopped in a 55-0 defeat of
host Flowing Wells on Friday night.
Jovan Stevenson ran for three touchdowns - on three straight
carries - to help the Blue Devils (6-2, 3-0) win the Class 5A
South Region contest.
Flowing Wells (1-7, 1-2) struggled to get anything going on
both sides of the ball, giving up 656 yards while gaining 111,
all through the air.
Big night: Stevenson ran for 210 yards in addition to
his three scores. On defense, he snared an interception.
Turning point: Sunnyside's third play from scrimmage
was a 50-yard run by Alex Leon that put the Blue Devils up for
good.
Key stat: Of Sunnyside's total yards, 604 came on the
ground.
Quotable: "We made some mistakes that we need to
correct," Sunnyside coach Richard Sanchez said. "We got what
we came for. We got a win. We're 3-0 in the league, and next
week is going to be tough. The next two weeks are going to be
tough."
Sunnyside plays Mountain View next week, then hosts Salpointe
in the final game of the regular season.
