At Sunnyside, Mike Smith took the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to set the tone for the Blue Devils' regional win.

After giving Sunnyside a 21-0 lead on a 79-yard pass play, Smith found the end zone again with a 4-yard run to cap the first-quarter scoring.

"He's a workhorse, a competitor," Sunnyside coach Richard Sanchez said. "He's a tough kid (who) runs hard. You give him the ball and he wants a touchdown. Every time he touches the ball, he wants to score."

Smith finished with 102 rushing yards and four touchdowns. His final touchdown came early in the second half. He then went to the bench in favor of sophomore Jovan Stevenson.

Stevenson was the stalwart for Sunnyside (5-3, 3-0) in the second half. He picked up three rushing touchdowns and intercepted a pass. He finished the night with 10 carries for 90 yards.

Sunnyside's defense forced seven turnovers and limited Flowing Wells (1-7, 0-3) to 44 yards on the ground.
