Sunnyside 29, Sierra Vista Buena 10
Mike Smith turned on the wheels against the host Colts.
Smith had 297 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries
to help lead the Blue Devils to their second straight win.
Sunnyside starting quarterback Sammy Olivas had a tough night
with an 0-for-5 passing performance, but Blue Devil backup
Jaime Valdez came in and was 6 for 6 for 111 yards and two
touchdowns.
Sunnyside gained 443 total yards.
The Blue Devils led 21-3 at halftime, but weren't able to blow
out Buena in the second half.
Buena's Jamal Womble led the Colts with 87 rushing yards.

At Buena, the Blue Devils' Michael Smith rushed for 297 yards
on 37 carries and scored two touchdowns to lift Sunnyside to a
5A Southern Region victory.
The Blue Devils never trailed against the Colts.
They were ahead 21-3 at the half and scored a late touchdown
and a two-point conversion to finish strong.
"What made the difference was probably the running of Mike
Smith," Buena assistant coach Mike Merz said.
Sunnyside "had some big plays. They had a good running attack
and made some good breaks."
